Apple after harvest N fertilization

Our research has shown the best time to apply N fertilizer is from bud break to the beginning of rapid shoot growth (shortly after petal fall) or post harvest. How much N fertilizer should be applied?  The answer to this question depends on three factors: 1) tree nitrogen requirement; 2) natural supply of nitrogen from soil; and 3) uptake efficiency of applied fertilizers.
